Overview

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic and inclusive team. This role is based in the UK with a focus on Engineering Design – MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing). Responsibilities

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will:

  • Design and Development:

    • Lead the design and development of MEP systems, ensuring compliance with UK building codes and industry standards.
    • Work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver cost-effective, sustainable, and high-quality engineering solutions for diverse projects.
    • Conduct feasibility studies, detailed system designs, and engineering calculations.
  • Project Management:

    • Oversee project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
    • Ensure the timely delivery of design packages by coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Resolve technical challenges while maintaining safety, efficiency, and quality standards.
  • Strategic Contribution:

    • Collaborate with HR and Talent teams to drive professional development initiatives, enhance team retention, and promote an inclusive work culture.
    • Mentor junior engineers and assist in succession planning by identifying and nurturing talent within the engineering team.
  • Compliance and Best Practices:

    • Maintain knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, standards, and best practices in MEP systems and engineering design.
    • Foster sustainable practices and innovative engineering approaches in all aspects of project delivery.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, we are looking for candidates who bring:

  • Education & Accreditation:

    • A bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
    • Chartered Engineering (CEng) status or working towards it is preferred.
  • Professional Experience:

    • At least 7+ years of experience in engineering design with a strong focus on MEP systems.
    • Experience working on projects in the UK, with comprehensive knowledge of UK building codes and regulations.
    • Proven leadership in managing complex projects and cross-functional teams.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Expertise in engineering design software such as Revit, AutoCAD MEP, and relevant simulation tools.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and document mechanical schematics, specifications, and layouts.
  • People & Leadership Skills:

    • Experience mentoring, coaching, or developing engineering teams.
    • Familiarity with HR best practices, talent development, and fostering diversity in the workplace.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams.

Day-to-Day

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, a typical day may involve:

  • Conducting detailed design reviews and ensuring all schematics align with project goals and sustainable practices.
  • Collaborating with architects, electrical engineers, and project managers to align mechanical solutions with the broader project design.
  • Attending client meetings to provide updates, gather feedback, and propose design recommendations.
  • Guiding team members, offering mentorship, and supporting their technical growth through active coaching.
  • Partnering with HR to enhance professional development plans and promote a culture that values contributions from all team members.
  • Performing site visits to inspect mechanical systems and ensure quality control and compliance.
