Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Associate Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic engineering design team. This role specializes in UK MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) engineering design with a strong focus on electrical design. As an Associate Electrical Engineer, you will leverage your expertise to provide creative, practical, and sustainable solutions for a variety of projects across multiple sectors, including residential, commercial, and industrial developments.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical Design Development: Design, develop, and optimize electrical systems, ensuring adherence to UK building codes, standards, and regulations.
  • MEP Coordination: Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical and plumbing engineers, to produce integrated and coordinated designs.
  • Project Management: Provide technical support and input throughout the project lifecycle, from conception through completion.
  • Sustainable Design: Embed energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable solutions into all designs, aligning with industry best practices.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with clients, architects, suppliers, and contractors to ensure technical requirements and project goals are achieved.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct regular design reviews, risk assessments, and compliance checks to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and sustainability criteria.
  • Documentation: Prepare detailed design calculations, system layouts, and technical specifications for project submissions and approvals.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of advancements in electrical technologies, MEP trends, and UK engineering standards, and apply this knowledge to ongoing projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Professional recognition or chartership (or working towards) with a relevant accrediting body (e.g., IET or CIBSE preferred).
  • Strong understanding of UK Engineering Design Standards and MEP systems.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Amtech, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of energy-efficient solutions, renewable technologies, and building management systems.
  • Solid analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to work effectively in diverse teams, demonstrating cultural awareness and inclusion.
  • Prior experience in the UK construction and engineering sectors is a plus.

Day-to-day

  • Develop and refine electrical system designs, analyzing project requirements and client needs.
  • Participate in design team meetings to coordinate multi-discipline project inputs.
  • Perform site visits or inspections to evaluate system performance or troubleshoot issues.
  • Conduct technical calculations, such as lighting levels, circuit sizing, energy loads, and fault current ratings.
  • Review project deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with UK regulations.
  • Support engineering leads and mentor junior team members, fostering collaboration and professional development.
  • Communicate regularly with project managers to track timelines, budgets, and key milestones.
