The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced General Foreman to join a leading civil engineering contractor delivering a major long-term water infrastructure project in Dumfries.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role on a flagship infrastructure scheme, leading site operations and ensuring the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of complex civil engineering works. The project forms part of a significant investment programme to improve and enhance essential water infrastructure.
Working alongside the Site Agent and Project Manager, you'll be responsible for managing day-to-day construction activities, coordinating site teams and subcontractors, and ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme and to the highest quality standards.

The Role
Reporting to the Site Agent, you will oversee the day-to-day delivery of construction activities on a major water infrastructure project, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with programme requirements.
Typical works will include:
- Reinforced concrete structures
- Drainage and pipeline installation
- Earthworks and excavation
- Utilities and buried services
- Pumping stations and associated infrastructure
- Temporary works
- Roads, access tracks and reinstatement works
Key Responsibilities
- Supervising all day-to-day site activities.
- Leading site operatives, supervisors and subcontractors.
- Coordinating labour, plant and materials to maximise productivity.
- Ensuring all works are delivered in accordance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards.
- Delivering daily briefings, toolbox talks and site inductions.
- Monitoring progress against programme and reporting to the Site Agent.
- Working closely with Engineers and the Project Team to resolve technical and operational issues.
- Maintaining quality standards and ensuring works are completed to specification.
- Recording daily site activities, plant utilisation and workforce allocation.
- Promoting a positive safety culture across the project.
- Assisting with planning upcoming works and resource requirements.
About You
We're looking for a proactive General Foreman with a strong background in civil engineering and infrastructure projects who enjoys leading teams and driving successful project delivery.
You will be an experienced site leader with the ability to motivate teams, coordinate multiple activities and maintain high standards of safety, quality and productivity.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a General Foreman within civil engineering.
- Experience delivering water, utilities or infrastructure projects.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Experience supervising direct labour and subcontractors.
- Good understanding of construction sequencing and programme delivery.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Commitment to maintaining high Health & Safety standards.
Qualifications
- SMSTS or SSSTS.
- CSCS Gold Supervisor Card (or equivalent).
- First Aid at Work.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Experience on clean water or wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Temporary Works Supervisor.
- National Water Hygiene Card.
- Confined Space Awareness.
- EUSR registration.
- CPCS or NPORS plant tickets.
