Commercial Manager – Construction and Civils

James Gray Recruitment is partnering with a well-established multi-disciplinary main contractor based in Aberdeen that has recently secured a significant volume of civils work. Due to this substantial growth, a new Commercial Manager position has been created to lead and develop the civils commercial team on a full-time basis.

This is a long-standing, reputable construction and civil engineering contractor with a strong regional presence and diverse project portfolio. With core capabilities across civils, earthworks, utilities and heavy construction, the business operates as a principal contractor on projects spanning infrastructure, commercial and public sector work. The main base is in the heart of Aberdeen, with office-first working and opportunities to support site teams as needed.

The Role

As Commercial Manager, you will take ownership of the commercial function for the rapidly expanding civils division. This is a hands-on leadership role where your influence will shape commercial strategy, governance and delivery across the team.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading and developing the civils commercial team
• Overseeing commercial delivery on multiple projects from procurement to final account
• NEC and other contract administration, negotiations and claims management
• Driving cost control, risk management and profitability
• Establishing robust commercial processes and reporting structures
• Building strong relationships with clients, supply chain partners and internal stakeholders
• Mentoring and up skilling commercial staff

What We’re Looking For:

• Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Commercial Lead within civils/infrastructure contracting
• Strong background in contract administration (NEC experience preferred)
• Track record in managing commercial teams and workflows civils/infrastructure
• Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills
• A proactive, commercially aware mindset with the ability to influence outcomes
• Relevant commercial qualifications (e.g., RICS/QS degree)

Experience in a main contractor environment across multi-disciplinary work will be highly valued.
