Mechanical Commissioning Engineer

Key Responsibilities

Serve as a Commissioning Agent for mechanical systems across large-scale facility projects, including cooling and heating systems, plumbing, fire protection, fuel oil systems, and Building Management Systems (BMS).

Manage commissioning activities within multidisciplinary engineering environments for complex, large-scale facilities.

Review design criteria, technical specifications, construction drawings, equipment submittals, and related documentation to ensure commissioning readiness and compliance.

Execute commissioning services in accordance with established quality management and QC procedures, validating and documenting system performance on behalf of the client.

Collect and coordinate required documentation, drawings, and technical data from clients, contractors, and equipment vendors.

Develop project-specific commissioning plans and schedules.

Prepare and/or review factory witness test procedures for major mechanical equipment.

Attend factory witness testing, document results, and issue detailed reports outlining deficiencies and corrective actions.

Schedule, lead, and document commissioning meetings throughout the project lifecycle.

Develop and execute pre-functional and functional performance testing for mechanical systems including HVAC, hydronic systems, plumbing, fire protection, fuel oil, and BMS.

Maintain commissioning logs, equipment checklists, and tracking tools; prepare comprehensive final commissioning reports.

Coordinate and manage external resources as required.

Participate in construction, coordination, and progress meetings when necessary.

Interface regularly with clients, general contractors, equipment vendors, testing technicians, and internal engineering/design teams.

Submit routine progress reports and meeting documentation to project and facility management teams.

Respond to client inquiries promptly and professionally, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
Qualifications & Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; equivalent military or industrial training considered.

Minimum 3+ years of experience in mechanical/controls engineering, commissioning, energy services, plant operations, or related field.

Prior data center or mission-critical project experience strongly preferred.

Experience commissioning and/or maintaining mechanical and electrical building systems.
-
Proven experience working alongside general contractors with strong communication and coordination skills.

Working knowledge of applicable industry codes, regulations, and standards.

Understanding of construction materials, methods, and best practices.
