Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Associate Electrical Engineer to join our engineering team. This role primarily focuses on supporting Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Design within MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) projects. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, efficient, and impactful solutions within the engineering and construction industry.

Responsibilities

As an Associate Electrical Engineer, you will be tasked with:

  • Designing, developing, and reviewing MEP engineering systems, with a primary focus on Electrical Design.
  • Collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams (architecture, mechanical engineering, plumbing, etc.) to ensure the highest standards of design integration.
  • Performing calculations, load analyses, and simulations to ensure systems meet project and compliance requirements.
  • Preparing technical documentation, such as electrical system specifications, schematics, and detailed design drawings.
  • Exploring energy-efficient solutions and sustainable design approaches to meet client and regulatory expectations.
  • Liaising with stakeholders to identify and interpret project requirements.
  • Conducting risk assessments and ensuring systems align with UK Engineering Design codes, standards, and legislation.
  • Supporting the development of younger engineers and fostering a team culture based on inclusion and collaboration.
  • Participating in design review meetings and providing support in the resolution of technical challenges.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent engineering qualification).
  • Practical experience or familiarity with UK Engineering Design – MEP standards.
  • Proven expertise in Electrical Design and/or Mechanical Design within building services industries.
  • Proficiency in design tools/software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar engineering applications.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills to manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with building energy performance optimization and renewable energy systems.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in relevant professional organizations (e.g., IET, CIBSE).
  • Previous experience in designing for LEED, BREEAM, or WELL certifications is an asset.
  • Knowledge of modern sustainable technologies and their application to electrical or mechanical systems.

Day-to-Day

Your day-to-day routine as an Associate Electrical Engineer might include:

  • Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to coordinate MEP designs from conception through delivery.
  • Managing small design tasks, offering innovative solutions for project efficiencies.
  • Analyzing and reviewing electrical and mechanical schematics to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Attending client and team meetings to communicate project progress and provide design updates.
  • Working closely with apprentices or junior engineers to help them refine their technical understanding and skills.
  • Conducting on-site visits to inspect installation works and monitor progress.
