Responsibilities

As an Electrical Engineer, you will:

• Design and Development: Produce detailed electrical designs for MEP systems, adhering to UK engineering design standards, project specifications, and client requirements.
• Collaboration: Work closely with architects, mechanical engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into overall design projects.
• Technical Documentation: Prepare high-quality technical drawings, specifications, and reports. Ensure documentation meets design codes and industry regulations.
• Problem Solving: Identify, diagnose, and resolve electrical design challenges, ensuring optimal functionality, safety, and efficiency in all projects.
• Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with applicable regulations, codes, and standards, including BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and building control standards.
• Innovation: Stay updated with the latest advancements in electrical design tools, technologies, and methodologies, applying innovative solutions to enhance project outcomes.
• Project Management Support: Collaborate on project timelines, budget constraints, and resource allocation to meet client expectations and ensure on-time project delivery.
• Sustainability: Integrate energy-efficient and sustainable design principles whenever possible to support environmentally responsible engineering practices.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should possess:

• A Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience (3+ years) in electrical design within an MEP engineering environment, with a focus on UK standards.
• Strong knowledge of UK engineering codes, BS 7671, and building regulations.
• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and electrical design tools (e.g., Dialux, Amtech).
• Solid understanding of electrical systems design, including lighting, power distribution, fire alarms, and BMS integration.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively communicate technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment while managing individual responsibilities effectively.
• A commitment to continuous learning, innovation, and delivering high-quality results.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience working on energy-efficient or renewable-energy projects.
• Chartered Engineer status or actively working toward professional registration with a recognized engineering institution (e.g., IET).
• Familiarity with BIM workflows and tools.

Day-to-Day

• Start your day with a team meeting to discuss project updates, review designs, and align tasks with deadlines.
• Develop and refine electrical system layouts using Revit or AutoCAD to meet specific project objectives.
• Work collaboratively with mechanical and plumbing engineers to ensure seamless MEP system integration.
• Visit project sites to assess design implementation, troubleshoot issues, or gather as-built information.
• Prepare and present progress reports to clients or senior management, ensuring clarity and alignment with expectations.
• Research market trends in electrical systems to find ways to improve sustainability and cost efficiency in future projects.
• End the day documenting changes, updating drawings or specifications, and planning for the next project milestone.
