Senior Fire Engineer

Location: Multiple UK locations – hybrid working
Employment: Permanent, Full-time
Discipline: Fire Engineering

James Gray Recruitment is working with a leading global multidisciplinary engineering consultancy to recruit a Senior Fire Engineer into its established and growing UK Fire Engineering team.

This is an opportunity to join a highly regarded technical environment, working alongside fire engineers and wider multidisciplinary design teams on a diverse portfolio of complex and high-profile UK projects.

The role would suit an experienced Senior Fire Engineer who has a strong background in UK consultancy, is comfortable developing both prescriptive and performance-based fire engineering solutions, and is looking to take greater responsibility for projects, clients and junior team members.

The Role

As a Senior Fire Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality fire safety engineering solutions across a range of sectors and project types.

You will work collaboratively with clients, architects, engineers and other design disciplines, taking projects through the design and approvals process while providing technically robust, evidence-based fire engineering advice.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and delivering fire strategies and evidence-based fire engineering solutions.
  • Applying both prescriptive guidance and performance-based / first-principles fire engineering approaches.
  • Working across complex multidisciplinary UK projects from design through to approval.
  • Liaising and negotiating with clients, Building Control and other approving authorities.
  • Leading client, stakeholder and multidisciplinary design-team meetings.
  • Explaining complex technical fire engineering matters clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Managing projects, programmes, fees and budgets.
  • Supporting, mentoring and sharing technical knowledge with junior members of the Fire Engineering team.
  • Working closely with other engineering and design disciplines to develop coordinated solutions.

What We're Looking For

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience within a Fire Engineering consultancy or similar design environment.
  • Strong experience delivering fire strategies and evidence-based fire safety solutions on UK projects.
  • Experience with performance-based and first-principles fire engineering, rather than solely prescriptive design.
  • Strong knowledge of UK fire safety legislation, regulations and relevant design guidance.
  • Awareness and understanding of the current UK building safety regulatory regime.
  • Experience successfully taking fire engineering solutions through the approvals process.
  • Strong client-facing, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Experience managing projects, teams and project finances.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Familiarity with the RIBA Plan of Work or similar design frameworks.
  • A relevant degree in Fire Engineering, Engineering, Architecture or another related discipline.

Chartered Engineer status through a relevant professional institution would be advantageous, although candidates who are actively working towards Chartership are also encouraged to apply.

What's On Offer?

This is an opportunity to join one of the industry's leading multidisciplinary engineering environments, offering exposure to technically challenging projects and the opportunity to work alongside highly experienced professionals across multiple engineering disciplines.

The business places a strong emphasis on technical development and provides access to extensive training, CPD and career progression opportunities.

The wider package includes:

  • Competitive salary
  • Additional company reward / profit-related benefits
  • Hybrid and flexible working
  • Private medical insurance
  • Life assurance
  • Accident insurance
  • Income protection
  • Flexible benefits
  • Clear long-term career progression

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK for the duration of their employment.
