Job Title: Structural Engineer

Responsibilities

As a Structural Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:

• Project Design & Delivery: Develop and implement detailed structural analyses, designs, and calculations for a variety of building projects, ensuring compliance with UK design standards and building codes.
• Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, contractors, and other engineers, to deliver integrated solutions.
• Innovative Solutions: Propose and evaluate sustainable design approaches, materials, and technologies tailored to clients' needs and building performance requirements.
• Technical Documentation: Prepare high-quality technical drawings, reports, and specifications.
• Quality Assurance: Conduct reviews and assessments of designs to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with project requirements.
• Client Engagement: Act as a point of contact for clients, maintaining strong professional relationships and addressing any technical questions or concerns.
• Mentorship & Development: Support and mentor junior engineers and team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and inclusivity.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, the ideal candidate will have the following:

Essential Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized institution.
• Chartered or working towards Chartered status (CEng or MIStructE preferred).
• Proven experience in the design and analysis of building structures in the UK, including knowledge of relevant standards such as Eurocodes, BS, and Building Regulations.
• Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., Tekla, AutoCAD, ETABS, or similar tools).
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to deliver innovative and practical engineering solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within diverse teams and contribute to a culture of equity and inclusion.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience in sustainable engineering and an understanding of environmental and energy-saving principles in design.
• Familiarity with steel, concrete, timber, and masonry structures.
• Experience working with BIM technologies and 3D modelling tools (Revit is a plus).
• Confidence in managing client relationships and handling multiple projects simultaneously.

Day-to-Day

A typical day in this role might look like:

• Collaborating with architects to align structural designs with aesthetic and functional goals.
• Performing detailed calculations and simulations to ensure the safety and stability of proposed solutions.
• Attending project meetings to discuss progress, client feedback, and potential issues.
• Developing innovative structural strategies that meet sustainability requirements and maximize efficiency.
• Preparing design schematics and discussing potential improvements with project stakeholders.
• Reviewing the work of junior engineers and providing constructive feedback to enhance team performance.
• Keeping up-to-date with industry best practices and innovations to bring fresh ideas to the team.
