Responsibilities

As an Electrical Engineer, you’ll be responsible for:

• Designing and delivering compliant, high-quality, and cost-effective electrical systems and solutions in line with UK MEP engineering design standards.
• Preparing and reviewing technical specifications, drawings, and layouts for electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, fire alarms, and building automation.
• Collaborating and coordinating with cross-functional teams—including mechanical engineers, architects, and project managers—to create integrated and scalable project designs.
• Conducting site visits, inspections, and surveys to assess project requirements and ensure design compliance with regulatory codes and safety standards.
• Completing feasibility assessments and preparing technical reports to support decision-making processes.
• Utilizing relevant software tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and other Building Information Modelling (BIM) platforms in the design process.
• Staying up to date on evolving industry trends, tools, and technologies in electrical engineering and sustainable energy systems.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications, skills, and attributes:

Essential:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in UK-based Engineering Design for MEP projects.
• Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and electrical calculation tools (e.g., Amtech, Dialux, ETAP).
• In-depth knowledge of British electrical installation standards (e.g., BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
• The ability to manage time effectively and prioritize multiple tasks to meet project deadlines.

Desirable:

• Professional membership with a recognized body, such as CIBSE or IET.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership.
• Experience in sustainable or renewable energy design solutions.
• Familiarity with energy modeling and energy management systems (EMS).

Day-to-Day

On a typical day, your responsibilities might include:

• Collaborating with the design team on new proposals for electrical systems in a construction project.
• Preparing electrical schematics, technical reports, and specifications.
• Running simulations and calculations to evaluate energy efficiency and operational performance.
• Participating in project meetings with stakeholders to discuss project progress, challenges, and technical solutions.
• Reviewing designs for compliance with industry regulations, codes, and sustainability best practices.
• Conducting site visits to inspect installation progress and troubleshoot issues when necessary.
• Researching emerging technologies and tools to enhance the efficiency of design processes and project outcomes.
