About the Opportunity

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and commercially minded Project Director to join and help shape a growing structural engineering consultancy specialising in building structures across the North West. This is not a standard senior role—this is a chance to build something for yourself, take ownership, and directly influence the strategic direction of the business.

You will join as part of the leadership team with 20% equity, playing a pivotal role in driving growth, winning new work, and establishing the business as a leading structural engineering force in the region.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead and manage the structural engineering team across a diverse portfolio of projects.

  • Contribute to the strategic direction, business planning, and long-term growth of the company.

  • Act as a key decision-maker on technical, commercial, and operational matters.

Business Development

  • Proactively identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with architects, developers, contractors, and public sector clients.

  • Lead bid preparation, presentations, and client engagement to increase market presence.

Technical Delivery

  • Oversee the technical quality of all structural engineering output, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.

  • Provide high-level technical guidance on concept, detailed design, and project delivery.

  • Review and approve structural design work while ensuring robust risk management.

Project Management

  • Manage project finances, resourcing, fee proposals, and programme delivery.

  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

  • Mentor and support engineering staff to ensure continuous development and strong team performance.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the IStructE or ICE (or working towards with extensive senior experience).

  • Demonstrable track record delivering building structures projects (commercial, residential, industrial, education, or mixed-use).

  • Strong client network within the North West built environment sector.

  • Proven success in winning new work, building client relationships, and driving business growth.

  • Experience leading a team and managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.

  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to convert opportunities into profitable contracts.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset – motivated by ownership, autonomy, and long-term value creation.
