Responsibilities

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering world-class engineering designs. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Design and Engineering Leadership:

  • Lead, manage, and deliver electrical designs for a range of MEP projects, ensuring compliance with UK standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Develop energy-efficient electrical solutions that are environmentally sustainable and cost-effective.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers to integrate designs into cohesive MEP systems.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, detailed design, and technical reviews.

Project Management and Delivery:

  • Take responsibility for project timelines, budgets, and quality control.
  • Provide technical leadership to guide junior and senior team members in delivering complex engineering solutions.
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.

Compliance and Standards:

  • Ensure designs adhere to all UK regulations, including BS7671 standards, BREEAM, CIBSE, and other relevant statutory requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of electrical and mechanical design trends, materials, and building codes in the UK.

Team and Client Engagement:

  • Mentor and coach a diverse team of engineers to cultivate a culture of professional growth and development.
  • Meet with clients to understand their needs and expectations, providing technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Present innovative ideas and solutions to stakeholders, ensuring alignment across all parties involved.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • BSc/BEng in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or an equivalent engineering field.
  • Professional certification or chartership (CEng, IEng, or equivalent).
  • Extensive experience in UK engineering design with a focus on MEP systems, including both electrical and mechanical aspects.
  • Proficient in electrical design software, such as Amtech, Dialux, and Revit (MEP).
  • Strong understanding of sustainable design practices and renewable energy technologies.
  • Proven track record of successful project delivery within the built environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to diverse stakeholders and team members.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in LEED, BREEAM, or other green building certifications.
  • Knowledge of BIM methodologies and tools.
  • Familiarity with cutting-edge technologies such as AI-driven design and smart building systems.

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you can expect to:

  • Mentor junior engineers and support their professional growth by reviewing their work and providing constructive feedback.
  • Attend design coordination meetings with project stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • Visit project sites for inspections, surveys, and progress reviews, ensuring designs are being implemented to specification.
  • Collaborate closely with the mechanical design team, architects, and construction professionals to deliver fully integrated MEP systems.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends in the engineering sector.
