Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join a commercial team supporting civil engineering, utilities, and infrastructure projects. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and commercially robust cost estimates, contributing to tender submissions and supporting cost control throughout the project lifecycle. This role provides exposure to a variety of high-value infrastructure projects and opportunities for career development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil engineering, utilities, and infrastructure projects from feasibility through to tender submission.

  • Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documentation.

  • Carry out quantity take-offs, measurements, and cost calculations for labour, plant, materials, and subcontract packages.

  • Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to obtain quotations and ensure competitive pricing.

  • Assist in identifying project risks, opportunities, and value engineering options to optimise project delivery.

  • Produce tender documentation, pricing schedules, and supporting commercial reports.

  • Support post-award handover to project delivery and commercial teams, providing accurate cost data.

  • Maintain and update estimating databases, historical cost information, and benchmarking records.

  • Collaborate with Senior Estimators, Project Managers, and commercial teams to ensure robust and buildable cost plans.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience as an Estimator within civil engineering, utilities, or infrastructure projects.

  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and measurement techniques.

  • Commercially aware with excellent numerical and analytical skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.

  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver accurate estimates to tight deadlines.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software; knowledge of systems such as Causeway or Candy is advantageous.

Qualifications (Desirable)

  • HNC / HND / Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Working towards, or interest in pursuing, professional or vocational estimating qualifications (e.g., RICS or CIOB).
