Structural Engineer

About Us

We are a growing SME based in Dundee, specialising in innovative structural design solutions for residential and commercial projects. With a strong pipeline of work focused on timber frame buildings, we are looking to expand our engineering team with a dedicated and motivated structural engineer who has a passion for sustainable design and modern methods of construction.


Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake structural design and analysis for timber frame buildings, including housing developments, commercial buildings, and bespoke projects.

  • Work with a range of structural materials (timber, steel, concrete, masonry), with a primary focus on timber engineering.

  • Prepare detailed design calculations, structural drawings, and specifications in accordance with Eurocodes and UK Building Regulations.

  • Liaise with architects, contractors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and effectively.

  • Carry out structural surveys, inspections, and site visits where required.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement in design processes, BIM integration, and sustainable construction practices.

  • Provide input into project costing, feasibility studies, and tender documentation.

  • Mentor and support junior engineers/technicians within the business.


Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent).

  • Minimum 3 years’ post-graduate experience in structural engineering, ideally within timber frame projects.

  • Strong understanding of timber design to Eurocode 5 and other relevant standards.

  • Proficiency in structural design software (e.g., Tekla Tedds, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar).

  • Good knowledge of UK Building Regulations and construction methods.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience liaising directly with clients and contractors.

Desirable:

  • Chartered or working towards chartership (CEng, IStructE or ICE).

  • Experience in off-site construction or modern methods of construction (MMC).

  • Knowledge of sustainability principles and embodied carbon in structural design.

  • Experience in mentoring junior staff.
