Senior Structural Engineer

Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Structural Engineer to join a well-established, design-led consultancy based in a modern Glasgow city centre office. The practice is renowned for delivering multimillion-pound, award-winning projects across a diverse range of sectors and is continuing to grow its presence in Scotland and the wider UK.

This role offers the chance to take a leading technical position on high-profile schemes, influence design direction, and mentor junior engineers, while working in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver structural designs on complex, multimillion-pound projects from concept through to completion

  • Act as project engineer on key schemes, coordinating with architects, contractors, and other consultants

  • Produce and review high-quality structural calculations, drawings, and specifications

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior and graduate engineers

  • Ensure designs comply with current UK codes, standards, and best practice

  • Contribute to design reviews, value engineering, and risk management

  • Support client relationships and attend meetings as a senior technical representative

  • Assist with fee proposals, programme planning, and project resourcing where required

Project Sectors

Projects may include (but are not limited to):

  • Commercial and mixed-use developments

  • Residential and high-rise buildings

  • Education and cultural buildings

  • Infrastructure and complex refurbishment schemes

Requirements

  • Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering

  • Chartered or working towards Chartered status (ICE or IStructE)

  • Significant UK experience in a structural engineering consultancy environment

  • Strong design experience in steel, concrete, masonry, and timber

  • Proven ability to manage projects and work autonomously

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Experience mentoring and supporting junior team members
