Senior Quantity Surveyor – Civil Infrastructure (Defence & Nuclear)
Location: Glasgow (Hybrid Working Available)
Are you a Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to work on complex, high-value infrastructure projects within a secure and highly regulated environment? James Gray recruitment is currently working with a well-established and highly respected organisation that has secured a significant pipeline of work across the defence and nuclear sectors over the next 3–5 years. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support a diverse and technically challenging portfolio. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a growing commercial team delivering critical civil infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Full commercial management of infrastructure projects from pre-contract through to final account
- Cost planning, estimating, and budget management
- Procurement and subcontractor management
- Administration of NEC contracts (ECC preferred)
- Change control, valuations, and commercial reporting
- Risk and opportunity management
- Ensure projects are delivered within budget while maintaining quality and compliance
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and internal teams
- Support and mentor junior commercial staff where required
About You
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or infrastructure projects
- Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4)
- Experience working in regulated sectors such as defence, nuclear, rail, or utilities is advantageous
- Strong commercial acumen and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Requirements
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- Professional membership (RICS or similar) is desirable but not essential
- Demonstrable experience in a Senior QS or similar role
- Ability to obtain Security Clearance (SC)
- Must be a British National due to the nature of the projects
