We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team specializing in UK Engineering Design - MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) and Mechanical Design. In this role, you will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of mechanical systems for a variety of projects. Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with UK standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality MEP designs for construction projects across various sectors (commercial, residential, healthcare, and industrial).
  • Oversee project plans, ensuring deliverables meet timelines, budgets, and technical requirements.
  • Drive sustainability-focused design strategies, integrating energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solutions into projects.
  • Conduct detailed system calculations, including load calculations, equipment selection, and HVAC design optimization.
  • Prepare technical reports, design specifications, and critical drawings using software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and other industry tools.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering a collaborative team culture.
  • Coordinate with external stakeholders, including architects, contractors, and clients, to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, innovative materials, and new technologies in mechanical systems design.

Qualifications

  • Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master’s preferred).
    • Minimum of 6-8 years of professional experience in mechanical or MEP design, with a strong focus on the UK market.
    • Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and simulation software (e.g., IES, Hevacomp).
    • Strong understanding of British Standards, CIBSE guidelines, and building regulations.
    • Experience in HVAC design, heating and cooling load calculations, and plumbing system design.
    • Excellent communication and project management skills.
  • Preferred:

    • Chartership with a recognized engineering council (CEng or working towards it).
    • Proven expertise in sustainable and energy-efficient design systems (e.g., BREEAM, LEED).
    • Familiarity with BIM methodology and integrated design approaches.
    • Experience working with diverse teams and commitment to fostering an inclusive environment.
  • Soft Skills:

    • Problem-solving mindset and ability to work under pressure.
    • Adaptable, with a strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Leadership ability, with a track record of mentoring and managing team members.

Day-to-day

  • Collaborate with architects, consultants, and other engineering disciplines to design and refine MEP systems that adhere to client goals.
  • Manage multiple projects and design phases simultaneously, ensuring quality across all deliverables.
  • Attend project meetings, present design proposals, and provide expertise during engineering discussions.
  • Use advanced software and tools to create models and generate engineering calculations.
  • Provide technical oversight to junior staff by reviewing designs, documentation, and project deliverables.
  • Investigate and implement innovative solutions to improve performance, reduce energy consumption, and align with environmental goals.
  • Identify and mitigate risks to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards across all aspects of the design process.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies and market trends to continuously evolve and enhance project execution strategies.
