Senior Design Engineer (Bridges)
Overview
An established contractor in the UK rail and civil engineering sector is looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join their growing in-house design team. Based in the Central Belt, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to a variety of civil and structural projects as part of long-term framework agreements across Scotland.

The design team delivers a diverse range of works, including bridge reconstructions, station upgrades, and wider infrastructure improvements. The group is made up of experienced professionals who value technical excellence, collaboration, and continued professional development.
The Role
As a Senior Design Engineer, you’ll take the lead in developing and delivering design solutions that meet programme, budget, and quality requirements. Your key responsibilities will include:

Developing innovative and practical engineering solutions from feasibility through to detailed design.

Producing and checking designs, calculations, and technical documentation in accordance with relevant standards.

Communicating design principles and progress clearly to internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.

Representing the design function at meetings with project and client teams.

Managing projects and mentoring junior engineers to support their growth.

Promoting safe working practices across all areas of responsibility.
About You
To be successful in this role, you should have:

Proven experience as a Senior Design Engineer within the rail or civil engineering sectors.

A degree in Civil Engineering and professional accreditation (IEng/CEng) or working towards it.

Experience in the design of civil engineering structures such as bridges, stations, and related infrastructure.

A background in design gained from a consultancy, contractor, or client-side environment.
