An established and growing organisation within the rail and civil engineering sector is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven professional to take ownership of projects from initial enquiry through to successful delivery, within a collaborative and safety-focused environment.
The Role
You will be responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of civil engineering projects, ensuring delivery to programme, budget, and the highest safety and quality standards. This includes managing design coordination, tendering, planning, site delivery, and project close-out.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing projects from pre-contract stage through to completion
- Coordinating design, quotations, planning processes, and possession planning
- Appointing and managing Site Managers and Supervisors, ensuring all personnel are competent and compliant
- Producing and maintaining key project and HSQE documentation (e.g. Construction Phase Plans, Quality & Environmental Plans, programmes)
- Ensuring adherence to health, safety, quality, and environmental standards across all stages of delivery
- Planning works to establish safe systems of work, including site inspections and maintaining required documentation
- Preparing and issuing site safety documentation such as inductions, task briefings, risk assessments, and COSHH information
- Supporting incident investigations and promoting a proactive safety culture
- Managing the tender process, including handover and risk review with project teams
- Maintaining strong communication with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams
- Acting as a key point of contact for client liaison, commercial oversight, and project performance
- Supporting and mentoring site teams to ensure high performance and development
- Liaising with external bodies and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations
- Monitoring working hours and resource allocation across projects
- Contributing to management meetings, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
About You
- Proven experience in a Project Manager role within rail and/or civil engineering
- Strong understanding of project delivery, commercial awareness, and stakeholder management
- Experience working in a collaborative project environment
- SMSTS certification (essential)
- PTS certification (desirable)
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills
- A proactive approach to health, safety, quality, and environmental standards
