## **Responsibilities**  
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will:  

- Lead and oversee the planning, development, and execution of **mechanical design projects** within the MEP discipline, ensuring compliance with UK Engineering Design standards, legislation, and sustainable practices.  
- Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to project teams, junior engineers, and designers to ensure project success and professional growth.  
- Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams to gather requirements, develop specifications, and deliver high-quality solutions.  
- Conduct detailed design calculations related to HVAC systems, plumbing, refrigeration, and other essential mechanical systems.  
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation, ensuring timely delivery and cost-effectiveness.  
- Keep up-to-date with cutting-edge technologies, tools, and best practices in the field of mechanical engineering within the MEP sector.  
- Perform quality reviews on drawings, calculations, and technical documents prepared by the team.  
- Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities, attending client meetings, and preparing technical proposals.  
- Actively promote sustainability and energy-efficient designs in your projects.  
- Uphold principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all collaborations and leadership activities.

## **Qualifications**  

### **Essential Skills and Experience**  
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).  
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership, with a strong understanding of UK Engineering Design codes and standards.  
- Extensive experience in **MEP mechanical design**, including HVAC, plumbing, or building services projects.  
- Proficiency in relevant design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, or equivalent, and simulation tools such as IES or TAS.  
- Proven experience managing large-scale or complex engineering projects.  
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and team collaboration skills.  
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities to effectively convey technical ideas to diverse audiences.  
- Commitment to implementing sustainable design principles and energy-efficient solutions.  

### **Preferred Skills**  
- Experience delivering designs for multiple market sectors (e.g., commercial, residential, healthcare, industrial).  
- Familiarity with BIM Level 2 workflows and processes.  
- Knowledge of emerging technologies within the MEP industry.

## **Day-to-Day**  
A typical day in your role as Principal Mechanical Engineer will include:  
- Leading project meetings with internal and external stakeholders to align on objectives and progress.  
- Mentoring and supporting junior team members to enhance their capabilities and professional development.  
- Reviewing and approving mechanical design drawings, calculations, and specifications.  
- Visiting project sites to inspect, resolve technical issues, and ensure adherence to design and safety standards.  
- Conducting sustainability assessments to inform design strategies.  
- Managing project deadlines and budgets, making adjustments to ensure successful outcomes.  
- Interacting with clients to provide updates on progress and address any concerns.  
- Staying informed about industry trends and sharing insights to improve organizational practices.
