Principal Engineer SER Certifier
The Opportunity
Our client is a well-established and highly respected engineering consultancy delivering bespoke structural solutions for luxury residential developments across Scotland. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Principal Structural Engineer with SER certification to lead the design and delivery of prestigious multi-million pound housing projects.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for an ambitious engineer who enjoys working on architecturally complex, design-led residential schemes while mentoring junior engineers and maintaining strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the structural design and technical delivery of high-value residential projects from concept through to completion
- Act as the lead SER Certifier, ensuring compliance with Scottish Building Standards
- Produce and review calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports
- Manage project teams and coordinate with architects, contractors, and external consultants
- Provide technical oversight across steel, concrete, timber, and masonry structures
- Attend client meetings and site visits across project stages
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest technical standards
- Support business development activities and contribute to the continued growth of the practice
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Chartered Engineer status (MIStructE or MICE preferred)
- Current SER Certification is essential
- Significant experience within structural engineering consultancy
- Proven experience delivering high-end residential or bespoke housing projects
- Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and Scottish standards
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills
- Strong leadership and project management capabilities
