Responsibilities
As an Associate Mechanical Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:
- Designing and delivering effective solutions for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems, ensuring alignment with UK engineering standards.
- Developing and refining detailed Mechanical and Electrical designs for a variety of building and infrastructure projects.
- Assisting in developing energy-efficient, environmentally sustainable solutions for clients.
- Conducting technical evaluations, feasibility studies, and design risk assessments.
- Creating and reviewing technical documentation including schematics, calculations, and reports.
- Working collaboratively within cross-functional teams consisting of engineers, architects, contractors, and project managers.
- Ensuring that all engineering solutions comply with UK regulations, codes, and best practices.
- Managing project timelines and budgets effectively while delivering high-quality designs.
- Conducting site inspections as required to oversee installations and to troubleshoot problems.
- Staying up-to-date with the latest advancements and trends in mechanical and electrical engineering.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with the following skills, experience, and attributes:
Essential
- A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in UK Engineering Design - MEP, Mechanical Design, and Electrical Design.
- Strong knowledge of UK building codes and engineering standards.
- Proficiency with industry-standard design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM tools).
- An innovative and solution-driven mindset with the ability to think critically and solve problems effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
Desirable
- Professional membership or accreditation with a recognized body (e.g., CIBSE or IMechE).
- Experience working on sustainability-focused projects, including green building designs.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies in the MEP industry.
- Familiarity with digital engineering tools and software.
Day-to-day
On a typical day in this role, you will:
- Collaborate with project stakeholders to understand requirements and develop design plans.
- Prepare mechanical and electrical design layouts, calculations, and specifications.
- Host design review meetings and provide updates to project leads.
- Utilize tools like AutoCAD or Revit to create innovative and effective designs.
- Analyze project requirements and develop solutions that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and compliant with regulations.
- Provide technical guidance to junior team members and supervise design implementations.
- Conduct site inspections to review the progress of installations and resolve any design-related issues.
