Role Overview

We are seeking an Assistant Estimator to support the pre-construction and commercial teams in preparing accurate, competitive tenders for civil engineering and energy infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for someone with a grounding in estimating who is looking to develop their career within a structured estimating and commercial team delivering complex, high-value works.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of tender submissions for civil engineering and energy infrastructure projects.

  • Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.

  • Carry out quantity take-offs and measurements from drawings and schedules.

  • Support the pricing of labour, plant, materials, and subcontractor packages.

  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations and technical information.

  • Assist in identifying project risks, opportunities, and value engineering options.

  • Maintain accurate records of pricing, assumptions, and tender documentation.

  • Support post-award handover to delivery and commercial teams.

  • Work closely with Estimators, Commercial Managers, and Project Teams to ensure robust and buildable cost plans.

Candidate Profile

  • Previous experience in an Assistant Estimator or Trainee Estimator role within civil engineering, utilities, energy, or infrastructure.

  • Strong understanding of construction drawings and measurement techniques.

  • Commercially aware with good numerical and analytical skills.

  • Comfortable working to deadlines in a fast-paced tender environment.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with internal teams and external supply chain partners.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating-related software (experience with estimating systems advantageous).

  • Ambitious and keen to progress within a structured estimating and commercial team.

Qualifications (Desirable)

  • HNC / HND / Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Working towards, or interest in pursuing, professional or vocational estimating qualifications.
