How to Ask for a Raise


Research & Consult

First things first, if you think you're due a raise but you're not sure what you're asking for - research it! Look up similar competitor roles online or ask your colleagues. Once you've done this you will have a much clearer idea of what you want and how to go about it.


Share your goals

A good way to open up the conversation of a raise, is to share your goals with them for you within the company and how you want and plan on progressing. Ask for their feedback & advice on how to achieve this.


Explain why you deserve it and not why you need it

Have you reached a specific target or goal set, achieved a new certificate or won a project? Tell them! All of these things will show your manager the reasons for wanting a raise in your salary (and are relatable).


Practice & Anticipate

Practicing doesn't mean standing in front of a mirror reciting lines, but being prepared is really important. Make a note of what you want to say and anticipate any questions you might be asked about them. Being nervous and forgetting what you want to say isn't uncommon in situartions like this so don't just try and wing it!
