Our client is a provider of refurbishment, planned maintenance, retrofit, energy efficiency to buildings and facilities for property owners across the UK.

They now have an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join their winning  team.

The new position of Buyer will be based in their East Kilbride office with responsibility for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring construction materials, plant and equipment, while ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality standards for the business operations UK  wide.

 

Reporting to, and working closely with the Senior Buyer, the key responsibilities for this role include:-

 

• Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to procure and place orders for materials and plant plus associated services at competitive prices and in line with service level agreements in place.

• Ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment to meet project schedules and timescales.

• Monitor market trends, material costs, and supply chain risks to optimise procurement strategies.

• Collaborate with contracts managers, quantity surveyors, and site teams to understand material and plant requirements.

• Maintain accurate procurement records, contracts, and reports.

• Support the estimating function by issuing and obtaining competitive quotations for key material and plant elements.

• Proactively resolve invoice queries and/or order anomalies to maintain productivity.

• Effectively manage the balance of material and plant orders to maximise rebate and best value opportunities and keep the operational and commercial teams up to date on procurement rational.

 

The Person

• Proven experience as a Buyer or in a similar procurement role

• Strong negotiation and analytical skills.

• Excellent communication skills written and verbal.

• Ability to analyse data to determine best value for money.

• Ability to instruct and direct others.

• Experience of tendering and estimating processes.

• Excellent knowledge of construction materials and plant, suppliers, and procurement best practices.

• Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite and Excel.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

• Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.

• Knowledge of UK construction regulations and supply chain management.

• Relevant qualifications in procurement, supply chain management, or construction (e.g., CIPS, HNC/HND in Construction or related field) are desirable
