£100m Glasgow city centre hotel and apartments project

Tenders are being invited for a £100m Glasgow city centre project which will result in almost 1,200 private flats and student rooms, a hotel and new retail opportunities.

Candleriggs Ltd has already been granted planning permission at Trongate in the Merchant City area. The land will be transformed into 132 high quality apartments for sale, 372 new apartments for private rent, a 124 bedroom hotel, 597 rooms for student accommodation and retail space.

Key consultants include Cundall Johnston and Partners (electrical and mechanical), Curtins Consulting Engineers (structural) and Capita (quanity surveyor).

Work will begin in October this year for four years.

£22m Edinburgh bridge repairs: announcement due

The contractor will be announced by Edinburgh Council in the next fortnight to carry out a £22m package of vital repairs to a city centre bridge.

Tenders have been returned and the main contractor award is anticipated by mid April. Work to carry out repairs on the city’s North Bridge is set to start in summer 2018 and complete in Autumn 2020. The bridge is 120 years old and has been found to be in a poor structural condition.

The package of works will include strengthening and structural steelwork repairs, grit blasting and repainting of the structural steelwork, repairs to the concrete deck soffit and replacement of expansion joints. Work to repair the bridge is mainly restricted to the underside of the structure. Once work is carried out, the bridge will be able to carry vehicles up to 44t.

Work will begin in February next year for 12 months. Key consultants include Currie & Brown (quantity surveyors).

£12m serviced flats with cinema and café in Dundee

Tenders are being invited for 135 serviced flats in Dundee.

The conversion of the former Dundee College building into apartments has begun after the VOX Dundee project was awarded planning consent by councillors.

Voxcap Investments (Dundee) will create 111 build-to-rent apartments with car parking and 24 serviced apartments. There are plans for a new café fronting Constitution Road. Residents will benefit from a cinema / auditorium, a launderette and an extensive landscaped courtyard.

Key consultants include CBA (quantity surveyors), Rybka (mechanical and electrical). Harley Haddow & Partners (structural). Work will begin in July for the 18 month project.

£65m Edinburgh city centre Virgin Hotel

Tenders are being invited for the redevelopment of an Edinburgh city centre hotel.

The scheme for the Virgin Hotel on Victoria Street involves the £65m redevelopment of a former registry office. The hotel will have 267 bedrooms and will be 4 star. It will be the first Virgin Hotel in Europe.

Work will begin in July for the 19 month project. Key consultants include Thomas & Anderson (quantity surveyor), Will Rudd Davidson (structural) and AECOM Tishman (mechanical and electrical).

Inverness £6.5m housing project

Work is set to begin on the construction of 49 residential units in Inverness.

The Albyn Housing Society scheme will consist of 23 houses, 20 flats and six bungalows. It will be situated on Balvonie Street. The associated works include sewer systems, landscaping, infrastructure and access roads.

Work should begin in August for 18 months. Key consultants include Brindley Associates (landscape), HGA (drainage and structural) and HGA (quantity surveyors).
